The Alberti cipher disk

Leon Battista Alberti, the "father of western cryptography" (David Kahn in CodeBreakers) the polyalphabetic substitution and offered one of the first mechanical crypto devices as well - the cipher disk.

Originally made of two copper plates, the cipher disk is a beautiful and easy to assemble crypto machine that can be found in various materials. Wood, metall or even paper.

Cildren may easily build their own cipher wheel. Just print out one of the following pattern. There are two versions. One for self labeling and one with all characters already printed in.
